Getting to Know Me

If you're viewing this, that means I actually decided to tell people about it. Hmm...we'll see. I guess since this is the first entry I should probably introduce myself.

My name is Melissa. I'm 21 years old, and a student at Utah State University. I am the youngest of 9, and the proud aunt of 18, soon to be 19 of the most amazing kids in the world, bar none. They range in age from nearly 25 down to 2 1/2 with another one due August 4th. As you might be able to tell, Aunt is my favorite title, above daughter, student, etc. I love them all. I try to make it to as many events as I can. I've been to baptisms, priesthood ordinations, primary programs, middle school and high school musical productions, choir concerts, Christmas programs, football and softball games, graduations, etc. They aren't always of the highest quality, but its nice to see that my nieces and nephews are the best looking, and most talented out there, and I'm not just saying that because I'm biased. They really are the best singers, athletes, and overall amazing kids in the group.

I love shoes, particularly sky high stiletto heels. They are so sexy and fun, but if you were to see me on a daily basis you'd find that I'm almost always in converse, flip flops, or boots depending on the season.

I keep a jar full of Swedish fish on my bookshelf at all times. I try not to ever let it get empty. I'm not a huge fan of chocolate unless its in a liquid drink form or brownies. Chocolate covered strawberries are just a waste perfectly good strawberries.

I have my own apartment, something I've been dreaming of since I was a preteen. Its great because I can throw parties, have people over for dinner, laughing and joking, and loud as can be, but then everyone goes home, and I have a quite, peaceful retreat.

I love to learn. One of the tasks I do at the on-campus library where I work is to stamp and tape all of the new journals that come in. They cover every topic from parenting, to technology, to writing, to medicine, and most anything else you can think of. I can find articles that look interesting in nearly every journal (except maybe the maths ones :P ). I am a glutton for punishment with my desire to learn. I am double majoring in International Studies and French with a minor in Psychology, and a teaching certificate for French and Psychology. I've been up at USU for 3 years, and probably have at least 3 more to go.

I also enjoy learning practical tasks. I'm very independent, so anytime I can learn to do something for myself, I enjoy the challenge (Especially if I get to use power tools!) Two of the tasks I'm most proud of learning how to do are changing shower heads and tiling. Now I want to learn how to install light fixtures, and other basic electrical work, and other around the house tasks.
